Harold Nii-Aponsah, DDS, MPH, PhD, has been elected Section Councilor for the Oral Health Section of the American Public Health Association (APHA). His three-year term will begin November 6, 2025, following the APHA Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.
As Section Councilor, Nii-Aponsah will contribute to national efforts focused on oral health policy, education, and advocacy. The role includes planning and participating in APHA programs and activities that support the organization’s mission to improve health and well-being across communities.
“It’s an honor to serve,” said Nii-Aponsah. “The APHA brings together professionals from across disciplines to address challenges in public health. I am excited to help advance oral health through collaboration, education, and service.”
Nii-Aponsah joined the UAB School of Dentistry in April 2025 as an assistant professor in the Department of Restorative Sciences in the Division of General Dentistry. His academic interests include community-based research, public health dentistry, and dental education. He also serves on the school’s Research Advisory Council.
