Originally from Fort Wayne, Indiana, Therrin J. Eber holds an M.F.A. in Scenic and Lighting Design from The University of Alabama and a B.A. in Theatre Design Technology and Directing from Purdue University Fort Wayne. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Theatre and Head of Design and Technology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he also acts as the department’s Production Manager and Technical Director. His teaching is rooted in a mentorship-driven, hands-on approach, preparing students to excel as designers, programmers, technicians, and leaders in the entertainment industry.
Therrin’s professional career spans theatre, opera, dance, concerts, and live events nationwide. His design credits include Ragtime, Anastasia, Sweeney Todd, The Barber of Seville, and the 2025 Off-Broadway production of Machinal at New York City Center. As a lighting designer, he has collaborated with artists such as Béla Fleck, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Manhattan Transfer, and ABBA! In Concert.
In addition to his design work, Therrin brings extensive production management experience. For three seasons, he served as Assistant Production Manager at Brevard Music Center’s summer festival, overseeing more than 100 performances each year, from full orchestral concerts to fully staged operas and high-profile fundraising events. He also worked as Technical Director for the Athenaeum Center for Thought and Culture in Chicago, designing lighting for NPR’s The Moth Radio Hour, The Wolfetones, Scythian, Mariachi Los Camperos, and numerous Live Nation events. While there, he also managed venue logistics for The Daily Show’s “InDecision 2025” coverage of the Democratic National Convention.
