Physics-Chemistry Major, Luke McClintock Earns 2014 Goldwater Scholar Honorable Mention
The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship in Excellence in Education Foundation has recently announced the recipients of its 2014 Goldwater Scholars, which included two UAB undergraduates. The Department of Physics was pleased to find out that Luke McClintock, a sophomore dual-major in physics and chemistry earned an honorable mention for this prestigious and highly competitive recognition.

Arrix L. Ryce, a local high school honor student who has worked in UAB labs under the supervision of faculty and students, became the first black student to win the Gorgas Scholarship competition in the contest's 67 year history in March.

Facebook Cybersecurity Capture the Flag
A Facebook-sponsored game of cybersecurity “Capture the Flag” was held March 22nd from 9am -3pm at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. UAB joined Stanford University as the first U.S. universities to host the Facebook event designed to test the skills of up-and-coming cybersecurity programmers as they try to penetrate peers’ online security while defending their own.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Sparkman Center for Global Health has announced its 2014 class of Sparkman Fellows.
