“I enjoy providing people with the resources they need!” said Carmen Smith, a UAB Social Work student intern. “United Way is a great organization.”

The UWCA said that the students who participate in the program get an opportunity to learn about the social service agencies and programs in the community.

“The students’ assistance is greatly appreciated and we’re happy to know that they will graduate with additional knowledge and skills to help their clients,” the UWCA said in the newsletter.

The Social Work 322 service learning partnership with UWCA was set up by Assistant Professor Dr. Laurel Hitchcock.

“I love my work here,” said Clara Tucker, also a student intern. “I hope to further my volunteer experience even after my hours are met.”
