The University of Alabama at Birmingham will recognize 61 student veterans graduating in spring 2025 during the annual Coins & Cords ceremoney, hosted by UAB Veterans Services. The event is set for 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, in Ballrooms C and D of the Hill Student Center.
Each graduating veteran will receive a red, white and blue cord to wear during commencement. In addition, those who have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher will be presented with a challenge coin to acknowledge academic excellence.
“We wanted to find a way to let our veterans know we care about them and their success in the classroom, as well as in life after college,” said Walter C. Stewart III, director of Veterans Services. “This coin will serve as a reminder of that.”
Many of UAB’s student veterans complete their degrees through online programs, which offer flexibility for those serving on active duty or balancing other responsibilities. Veterans graduating from both on-campus and online programs will be honored.
