Zach Till with the April Employee of the Month Award
UAB Student Affairs has named Zach Till the April Employee of the Month, recognizing his dedication, innovation and leadership in his role as coordinator of Aquatics and Operations for University Recreation.

Each month, the Student Affairs Professional Development Committee selects an employee who exemplifies the Blazer Way—integrity, respect, accountability and excellence — from a pool of nominations submitted by colleagues across the division.

Till was praised by nominators for his consistent commitment to excellence, his ability to lead and support his team, and for finding creative solutions to operational challenges. His contributions continue to enhance the experience for both staff and students at University Recreation.

Zach has consistently demonstrated accountability by taking ownership of his personal and professional growth. He sets high expectations for himself and his team, ensuring that all programming is executed at the highest level. Over the past year, he has successfully filled every swim lesson offered, helping to teach over 100 participants.

His collaboration skills are evident in how he works closely with his team, overseeing two of our largest student staff areas—attendants and lifeguards. He not only interviews and trains them but also provides ongoing support to help them succeed. He fosters strong partnerships across UAB to enhance the student experience.

Zach upholds equity and inclusion by creating an environment where all students feel welcome and valued. Through his leadership, he ensures that every program and initiative is accessible and engaging for a diverse audience.

His commitment to excellence is reflected in his ability to stay ahead of program planning. He is always 1–2 steps ahead, ensuring that initiatives run smoothly and effectively. His leadership in developing unique events such as the Floating Egg Hunt and Floating Pumpkin Patch served over 120 people in the local community, furthering UAB’s mission of engagement.

Zach embodies innovation by constantly seeking ways to improve UAB Recreation. He is never complacent, always looking for fresh ideas to enhance programs and services. His current vision includes creating scholarship opportunities for student staff to attend conferences, further investing in their professional development.

In terms of integrity, Zach does not shy away from tough conversations. He is committed to guiding and developing his staff, ensuring they grow both personally and professionally. His leadership fosters a culture of transparency, trust, and accountability.

Lastly, his commitment to well-being is evident in his dedication to his staff and participants. He champions a holistic approach to health and wellness, making a lasting impact on the students and community he serves.
