UAB Student Affairs has named Nana Weng the July Employee of the Month, recognizing her service, professionalism and efficiency in her role as an institutional research analyst II in Student Affairs and the Office of Institutional Effectiveness & Analysis.
Each month, the Student Affairs Professional Development Committee selects an employee who exemplifies the Blazer Way — integrity, respect, accountability and excellence — from a pool of nominations submitted by colleagues across the division.
Weng, who first joined the division as a graduate assistant for Student Affairs Assessment and Planning, has become a key resource for departments across the university. Known for her ability to translate complex data into actionable insights, she supports student engagement, housing and co-curricular initiatives by aligning data analysis directly with the division’s strategic goals.
What nominators said about Nana:
Colleagues praised Weng’s skill in “creatively and effectively highlighting the division’s story in a fresh and engaging manner” and her talent for simplifying complex information while maintaining analytical precision. Her work has helped teams better understand and work toward improved outcomes, they said.
“She has become a vital liaison for Student Affairs, offering expert-level data analysis that supports our initiatives,” one nomination read. “Her collaborative spirit sets her apart. She works closely with departments to understand their assessment needs and co-creates reports and dashboards that are both user-friendly and impactful.”
Weng’s influence extends beyond her formal responsibilities. She has served on the One Day Conference Planning Committee, the Professional Development Committee and various collaborative projects with Housing, Dining, Student Health and other units to enhance student support on campus.
Another nominator described Weng’s calm, confident demeanor as a source of reassurance when navigating complicated data. “Even though data can be complicated, Nana has a way of helping make sense of it all. She patiently guides you through what may seem like unintelligible numbers, connecting the dots in a way that brings forth an appreciation of data in a fascinating manner,” the nominator said.
Nominators also highlighted Weng’s diligence, kindness and commitment to student success. “She understands that her work is not just a job,” one colleague wrote. “She knows how it plays a key role in supporting students and institutional success.”
