UAB Student Affairs has named Hunter Lovett the September Employee of the Month, recognizing his service, professionalism and efficiency in his role as an assistant director in the office of Community Standards and Student Accountability.
Each month, the Student Affairs Professional Development Committee selects an employee who exemplifies the Blazer Way — integrity, respect, accountability and excellence — from a pool of nominations submitted by colleagues across the division.
What nominators said about Hunter:
Hunter consistently goes above and beyond, for example stepping up during the Associate Director’s absence due to surgery. As the sole conduct officer for multiple weeks, Hunter embraced the increased responsibilities with a positive and joyful attitude.
Since the start of the semester (FA ’25), Hunter has managed complex cases involving acts of harm, alcohol and medical amnesty cases, and disruptive behavior. Notably, he led a high-level physical harm case involving five students that required interim actions, including housing removal, which presented multiple logistical challenges. Hunter collaborated closely with Housing and UABPD to resolve these issues, ensuring that students affected by interim suspensions were supported and treated with dignity and respect. Through these efforts, he effectively minimized barriers for students who were abruptly displaced, demonstrating his strong commitment to supporting and advocating for their well-being.
Hunter acts with integrity by making sure to consider all information before making decisions that could literally change the trajectory of a student's college career. His dedication to excellence is evident in his thorough approach to investigations. He conducted numerous student and witness interviews, verified information through housing walkthroughs, and even skipped lunch multiple days to ensure cases were handled promptly and accurately. Throughout the process, he made all parties (reporting and responding parties) feel comfortable, demonstrating his greatest strength: Building rapport and ensuring respect while upholding student responsibilities.
Additionally, Hunter made appropriate referrals based on discussions with students, further supporting their success and well-being. Hunter is a listener. I have observed Hunter rally around students, even in their most difficult moments. Hunter's skills were developed prior to his work in conduct when he served as a counselor outside of UAB. He uses that active listening skill sets. But honestly, this is just who he is: kind, compassionate, and funny.
Hunter’s swift and decisive actions ensured that potential risks were addressed promptly, helping to maintain a safe and secure environment for the entire UAB community. By proactively coordinating with Housing and UABPD, he mitigated safety concerns while still treating students with fairness and respect. His ability to balance safety, accountability, and student support reflects his dedication to both individual students and the broader campus community.
