The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Veterans Services office, in conjunction with the Birmingham Health District and Girls on the Run, and presented by Viva Health, held its third annual Veterans Day 5K on Saturday, Nov. 8, at Railroad Park.
The community event brought together more than 1,100 registrants and over 1,000 participants — including runners, ruckers, walkers, strollers, and wheelchair racers — to honor those who have served, promote health and wellness, and support UAB’s student veteran population.
Since its inception in 2023, the Veterans Day 5K has provided over $9,000 in direct relief to military-connected students, helping cover essentials such as housing, books, and emergency expenses. Participants received event T-shirts and finisher medals.
The event was supported by the following sponsors and partners: Viva Health, AmFirst, Jefferson County Department of Health, Cooper Green Mercy Health, US Department of Veterans Affairs, Live Healthsmart Alabama, City of Birmingham, Housing Authority of the Birmingham District (HABD), Southern Research, Children’s of Alabama, and HEAL.
