The UAB School of Education and Human Sciences has recognized Tracee Synco, PhD, of the Department of Physical Therapy as its recipient of the 2025 Exemplary Alumni Award.
The Exemplary Alumni Award is one of the highest honors given by the School of Education and Human Sciences, recognizing graduates who have made significant contributions in education, leadership, and community service.
The award recognizes Synco’s extraordinary accomplishments serving the Birmingham community.
“This was a great compliment and humbling,” said Synco on the honor. “It is difficult to express how gratifying it is to learn that among my peers, I have the reputation of being someone who is making a difference. Professionally, the validation for my work and community service is profound.”
Synco earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership from UAB in 2012 and currently serves as a faculty member in Physical Therapy.
She has distinguished herself through her teaching, mentoring, and community involvement. Faculty in the Educational Leadership program noted her strong teaching record, development of innovative courses, and commitment to student mentorship at UAB. Her work in securing grants to support academic and outreach initiatives was also highlighted as a key reason for the recognition.
That impact includes personal leadership roles outside of UAB with local nonprofit organizations such as Birmingham AIDS Outreach (BAO) and the Magic City Acceptance Academy.
“Throughout my personal and professional journey, I have embraced opportunities to serve historically marginalized groups,” said Synco. “I am currently the Board Chair for BAO and is my third time serving in the role since first being voted onto the board. I am honored to have the ability to use my background, expertise, and training to contribute to its success.”
Synco was formally recognized during an awards ceremony on April 21.
