New to UAB?
New faculty members or researchers may begin or continue their research if they provide certification of completing the CITI course-or another training course accepted by the institution as meeting the federal HRPP training requirements while affiliated with an institution that holds a Federal-wide Assurance (FWA).
Persons submitting certification of a training course other than the CITI course should also submit a description of the course (e.g., syllabus, course objectives and outline).
Depending on the date when the "transferred" training was completed, continuing HRPP training may also be required. click here for more information on continuing HRPP training.
To receive HRPP training credit at UAB, you must submit a copy of your completion certificate showing your name, the name of the course, and the date you completed it. two items to the UAB HRPP by fax (934-1301) or scan-and-email to Loren Campbell (

For HRPP training credit, provide the HRPP with your CITI Completion Certificate showing completion of the Basic CITI Course in the Protection of Human Subjects.
Working with non-UAB Researchers Outside the USA?
This training is not accepted for UAB students or employees or for persons who live in the USA.
Researchers who do not live in the USA and are not employed by UAB, initial HRPP training may be completed through either one of two training curricula produced by Family Health International: "Research Ethics Training Curriculum" and "Research Ethics Training Curriculum for Community Representatives." These curricula are available at the FHI web site .
HRPP training credit at UAB can be granted after the HRPP receives either
- Hard copy: a copy of the researcher's FHI completion certificate.
- Electronic copy: an e-mail message sent from the international researcher directly to the UAB HRPP that includes the FHI completion certificate (attached or forwarded) and contact information.
