University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing University Professor and Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs Linda Moneyham, PhD, RN, FAAN, is one of 11 UAB faculty honored with the 2025 UAB President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. This annual award recognizes full-time faculty members across the university who have demonstrated excellent accomplishments in teaching. Individuals can be nominated by members of the student body, faculty or alumni.

Moneyham is noted for her distinguished academic career, extensive contributions to nursing education and nursing science, and commitment to mentoring students. She has taught across programs, from undergraduate to doctoral, effectively communicating complex concepts with clarity. Her courses have integrated theory with practical application, bridging academic knowledge and clinical practice. Moneyham has mentored numerous doctoral candidates and junior faculty, leaving a lasting impact on the School’s educational mission.

“I greatly appreciate this recognition as it reflects more about our School’s journey to excellence in teaching than about any individual efforts,” Moneyham said. “I am proud to have the opportunity to lead the faculty of the School of Nursing who are highly committed to teaching excellence, student success and ensuring a great student experience.”

Moneyham is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and has served on the Board of Governors of the National League for Nursing. As the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the UAB School of Nursing since 2011, Moneyham has led faculty in transformative curriculum revisions across all academic pathways, ensuring that the School remains at the forefront of innovative, evidence-based nursing education. Under her leadership, both the prelicensure and graduate programs have achieved national recognition, consistently ranking among the top 10 public institutions in U.S. News & World Report.

Moneyham also is an accomplished researcher, known nationally and internationally for her work in HIV and behavioral health, as well as in higher nursing education. She is widely regarded as an expert in her field, and her scholarship has significantly influenced clinical practice and academic policy. Her expertise is consistently sought after for publications, national presentations, and leadership on committees that shape the future of nursing education and public health. Her collaborations on teaching practices, research and quality improvement with learners and mentees has led to numerous publications, with more than 100 peer-reviewed articles.
