University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing Associate Professor and Interim Assistant Dean for Research and Scholarship Edwin Aroke, PhD, CRNA, FAANA, FAAN, is Editor-in-Chief of the AANA Journal, the bi-monthly publication of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology. The AANA Journal is a peer-reviewed publication that serves as a resource for certified registered nurse anesthetists, highlighting emerging ideas, issues and innovations that help CRNAs stay current in the profession, maintain high practice standards and ensure patient safety and positive outcomes.
Aroke is a respected scientist in both national and international circles, specializing in leading-edge pain research, nursing scholarship, service and clinical practice.
“I am delighted to be selected as the Editor-in-Chief of the AANA Journal at an exciting time for professional and academic discourse,” Aroke said. “Having contributed to the Journal as an author, peer reviewer and member of the Editorial Board, I am looking forward to growing the AANA Journal into a reputable publication in anesthesiology and nursing.”
Aroke has authored more than 70 publications and served as a manuscript reviewer for multiple peer-reviewed journals. In 2024, he was named to the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology Foundation Board of Trustees. He also served as President of the Association of Cameroonian Nurse Anesthetists in America from 2021-2023. Most recently, Aroke was recognized with the 2024 International Society of Nurses in Genetics Founders’ Award. Additional accolades include receiving the Friends of the National Institute of Nursing Research 2022 Protégé Award and the 2022 Mitchell Max Award for Research Excellence from the National Institutes of Health Pain Consortium.
