University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Department of Small Business Inclusion, has been selected to receive the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award — the highest honor given to citizens.
Demetria P. Scott, manager for theScott is one of 17 individuals who will receive the award during a ceremony Saturday, July 2, at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. The award is given by President Joseph Biden Jr. and will be presented to Scott by the American Academy for Young Professionals Incorporated.
“My life has been a serious duty to assist others with their desires and needs to enhance their lives as well as the community,” Scott said. “I greatly appreciate those who saw my network as an educational vehicle to help others succeed. This prestigious award will serve to inspire me to even more important good work in the community where I live, work and enjoy.”
Recipients are selected based on their demonstrated educational leadership and community service to students. They are nominated and selected by community leaders.
During her 28 years at UAB, Scott has been recognized for her dedication with several awards, including UAB’s Diversity Champion Award in 2007, UAB’s Commission on the Status of Women, Outstanding Woman of the Year in 2016 and the Diversity Leader Award, presented by BB&T, at the 2020 Minority Business Awards.
