Sadis Matalon, Ph.D., professor of anesthesiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, has been named Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Physiology- Lung, Cellular and Molecular Physiology, the scientific journal of the American Physiological Society. Matalon, a member of the society for 35 years, begins a three-year term in January 2012.
“My goal is to attract high-quality papers describing significant new findings in all aspects of cell and molecular biology and to improve the quality of these papers by careful, thoughtful reviews thus having a significant, positive impact in our field,” said Matalon. “Further, I intend to highlight important controversies and invite constructive dialogue on how to resolve them.”
Matalon has been on the editorial board of the journal for 14 years and was previously deputy editor of the American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology. He is vice chair for research for the UAB Department of Anesthesiology and director of the UAB Pulmonary and Injury Repair Center.
