The Fulbright Program is an international academic exchange program founded in 1946 with a goal to increase mutual understanding and support friendly and peaceful relations between the people of the United States and other countries. Today, the United States government oversees an extensive suite of fellowships and scholarships in partnership with more than 160 countries worldwide.
“We are deeply proud of Aysha, Subrata, Seth and Kevin for what they’ve achieved and how they embody UAB’s commitment to academic excellence and meaningful global engagement,” said Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Janet Woodruff-Borden.
Aysha Patel
Aysha Patel has been selected as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant for Spain. She hopes to work with high school students in Galicia, Spain. When she is not teaching, Aysha will partner with a local branch of the Fundación Secretariado Gitano to work with Roma children. After returning from Spain, Aysha plans to attend medical school.
An alumna of the UAB Honors College, Patel received her Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience and Bachelor of Arts degree in world languages and literatures in 2024. She also graduated with a Master of Science degree in multidisciplinary biomedical sciences in 2024.
Subrata Satyal
Subrata Satyal will serve as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Spain. She hopes to be placed in Madrid, where she plans to bring medical-relevant English to Spanish-speaking community members interested in or working in health care settings. After her Fulbright grant, Satyal plans to attend dental school.
An alumna of the UAB Honors College, Satyal graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience and Master of Public Health degree in May 2025.
Kevin Joseph
Kevin Joseph has been selected as an English Teaching Assistant Award for Saudi Arabia. He is looking forward to developing his Gulf Arabic linguistics as part of a local language exchange there. When Joseph returns, he plans to attend medical school.
An alumnus of the UAB Honors College, Joseph graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in medical sociology in May 2025.
Seth Hubbard
Seth Hubbard has been awarded a Fulbright grant to conduct research in chemistry in Belgium at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. He is currently a Postbaccalaureate Intramural Research Training Award Fellow at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.
Hubbard will forgo his Fulbright grant to accept an Erasmus Mundus+ Scholarship, which provides full tuition, fees and support for two years of graduate study in Europe. His studies will be divided among Côte d’Azur University in Nice, France; the University of Genoa in Genoa, Italy; and Osnabrück University in Osnabrück, Germany.
An alumnus of the UAB Honors College, Hubbard graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience in 2023.
