Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Associate Professor Sara Gould, M.D., will present “Resistance Training Does Not Decrease Placental Blood Flow During Valsalva Maneuver: A Novel Use of 3D Doppler Power Flow Ultrasonography” at the International Olympic Committee World Conference on Prevention of Injury and Illness in Sport in Monaco in Nov. 2021.

“Association of Surgical Jacket and Bouffant Use With Surgical Site Infection Risk,” authored by current and former orthoapedic surgery trainees, was the most viewed and downloaded article in JAMA Surgery, a peer-reviewed journal, in 2020.
Hello, goodbye 2021: Orthopaedic Surgery Residency
Although Match Day 2021 did not look exactly like match day in years past due to the COVID-19 outbreak, fourth-year medical students across the country engaged online through social media, sharing where they were matched. While it was impossible to have everyone in the same room at one time, the excitement could still be virtually felt.

Ponce departs UAB for Hughston Clinic
After 14 years with the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Professor Brent Ponce, M.D., will transition his clinical practice to the Hughston Clinic in Columbus, GA. His last day with the department will be Feb. 28.
