Rajamiyer Venkateswaran, M.D., MBBS, M.S., a professor in the UAB Department of Surgery’s Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and chief of heart, mechanical circulatory support and lung transplant service, presented at the Heart Failure Foundation conference in Bengaluru, India, this month.
Venkateswaran, who joined UAB from England earlier this year, was one of four presenters who are faculty at institutions outside of India. The conference focused on advanced heart failure and the latest advancements and research in this area.
Venkateswaran gave several presentations relating to his research and expertise in heart and lung transplantation. The research he shared explored outcomes in recipients of organs from older donors, temporary mechanical circulatory support in acute right ventricular failure, left ventricular assist device (LVAD) infections, hypothermic oxygenated machine perfusion (HOPE), and more.
He also led a hands-on training for attendees to practice LVAD implantation.
“It is always a privilege to be able to share knowledge and wisdom I’ve gained with early career cardiologists and transplant surgeons,” Venkateswaran said. “It was also a pleasure to learn from, and network with, my international colleagues who are experts in their fields.”
