UAB General Surgery Resident Alizeh Abbas, M.D., recently earned third place in the ACS Advocacy and Health Policy Abstract Competition at the American College of Surgeons' 2025 Leadership & Advocacy Summit in Washington, D.C.
Her abstract, entitled "Empowering patient voices: Developing a tailored patient engagement technology platform for colorectal cancer screening in rural Alabama," highlights an innovative approach to improving cancer screening and patient engagement in Alabama.
This national recognition adds to Dr. Abbas’ growing list of achievements. She currently serves as Vice Chair of the AWS Resident and Fellow Committee and represents UAB General Surgery on the Board of Directors for the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

About the ACS Advocacy and Health Policy Competition
The American College of Surgeons held its third Annual Advocacy and Health Policy Abstract Competition for surgical trainees at the 2025 Leadership & Advocacy Summit from April 5-8, in Washington, D.C. The national competition was open to all resident and surgical trainee members.
