Gracie McGuire, MPH, PA-C, advanced practice provider (APP) in the UAB Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), was honored with the 2025 APP Champion Award for her dedication to patients and students.
This award, created by the Advanced Practice Provider Executive Council (APPEC) in collaboration with the Office of Advanced Practice Providers, signifies McGuire’s embodiment of UAB Core Values and the lasting impact she has made and continues to make on patient care and the health system.
McGuire is a 2019 graduate of the UAB Physician Assistant (PA) program. She is still involved with the program teaching PA students and helping connect pre-PA students with alumni for shadowing opportunities. Her dedication to students and patients is evident.
“I work hard for my patients, so it is an honor to have that effort recognized. But without my wonderful patients and the variety of patients I have the privilege of treating at UAB Spain Rehabilitation Center, I would not be the clinician I am today. Medicine is always a team effort, so I want to thank my fellow APPs, the attendings, nurses, and clinical and administrative support staff that let me be as effective as I am for our patients,” said McGuire.
When nominated for this award, some feedback from peers included - “phenomenal with her patients,” “puts the team first on a consistent basis,” and “follows through on every commitment, no matter how large or small.”
“Gracie’s unwavering commitment to clinical excellence is evident in every patient interaction and every outcome. But what truly sets her apart is her collaborative and supportive nature. She is always willing to assist colleagues and share her knowledge, which elevates overall performance. Whether it is staying late to ensure a patient's transition of care is smooth or offering a helping hand on a busy day. Gracie's collaborative spirit and selfless contributions have profoundly strengthened our team and the department. We are incredibly fortunate to have her as a part of PM&R,” said APP Supervisor Karion Waites, RN.
