Headshot of Sandy PilgromFor the past nine years, Sandy Pilgrom has been a dedicated member of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Pediatrics. As a Patient Services Coordinator II, Pilgrom brings more than 30 years of medical billing revenue cycle experience to her role, including nearly 20 years with the University of Alabama Health Services Foundation (UAHSF).

Pilgrom describes her work in one word: rewarding. Throughout her time in Pediatrics, she has found fulfillment not only in the work she does but also in the people she works alongside.

“I’ve had the privilege of working with a supportive leadership team and being surrounded by a group of co-workers who are supportive and assist in bringing a smile to your face on a daily basis,” said Pilgrom.

In her role, Pilgrom helps resolve patient account balances, reviews and analyzes accounts and works with patients, insurance carriers and colleagues to address billing needs. She also provides support and training to her team when needed.

For Pilgrom, the most rewarding part of her work is knowing she has been able to help others, whether that means resolving a difficult account, helping patients better understand their balances or assisting a co-worker.

“I enjoy being able to assist the patients by providing excellent customer service and resolving patient account balances,” noted Pilgrom.

Pilgrom also credits the relationships she has formed with her colleagues as one of the things she enjoys most about working in the Department of Pediatrics.

“It is a wonderful thing to get up each day without dreading going to your workplace,” said Pilgrom.

Outside of work, Pilgrom enjoys reading, decorating her home and trying new foods and dining experiences. A self-described foodie, she recently visited Johin’na Restaurant on Second Avenue North for a birthday celebration and recommends it for those looking to celebrate a special occasion.

After nine years in the Department of Pediatrics, Pilgrom continues to find satisfaction in helping patients, supporting her colleagues and knowing that her work makes a difference each day.
