The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Pediatrics is pleased to announce the Pediatric Underserved and Global Health (PUGH) Scholars program for the 2025-2026 academic year. The PUGH Scholars Program is a longitudinal opportunity for UAB pediatric residents to receive focused education and hands-on experience in global and undeserved health during three-years of residency training.
The program aims to equip residents with a deeper understanding of health challenges in low-resource settings and to foster the delivery of culturally sensitive, competent care. PUGH Scholars participate in social gatherings, interest group meetings, global health stimulations and global health-focused conferences.
During the 2024-205 academic year, residents engaged in a variety of enriching experiences, including a career panel with Drs. Wally Carlo and Priya Prabhakaran, a travel health talk by PGY-3 scholars and simulations designed for low-resource settings. Two residents also completed international rotations in Santiago, Chile and Kijabe, Kenya.
