Olivia Railey, RN, BSN, CICUAB Hospital-Callahan Eye is proud to announce that Olivia Railey, RN, BSN, CIC, Nursing Services Program Manager, has been elected to serve as the 2026 president-elect of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) Alabama chapter.

In this leadership role, Olivia will serve with APIC Alabama—collaborating with the Chairperson of Education, Special Events Committee, and fulfilling the position of President or Secretary should these positions become vacant over the next year—supporting infection prevention professionals across the state.

Olivia’s journey at Callahan began 7 years ago when she joined the team as a Patient Care Assistant. After completing her nursing education, she stayed on as a Circulating RN, later becoming Callahan’s Infection Prevention and Quality Coordinator. She now leads as Nursing Services Program Manager, overseeing key clinical initiatives and quality efforts.

“I am beyond excited to represent our facility within a professional organization as amazing as APIC,” Olivia said.

Founded in 1972, APIC is a nonprofit association dedicated to advancing infection prevention in healthcare settings worldwide. With more than 15,000 members across 48 countries, the organization focuses on improving patient safety through education, professional competencies, certification, and standardized data practices. APIC also established the Certification Board for Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) in 1987.

APIC’s Alabama chapter (Chapter 061) serves infection prevention professionals across the state, meeting monthly across Birmingham and representing a membership of 145.

The APIC Alabama chapter works to support professional development, enhance communication among members, and strengthen partnerships with organizations committed to infection prevention across the state. Its goals include providing ongoing educational opportunities, hosting workshops on emerging issues, and improving chapter communications and engagement.
