UAB Family and Community Medicine is expanding access to comprehensive primary care across Birmingham with the opening of a new family medicine clinic at UAB St. Vincent’s East.
Beginning August 18, UAB Family Medicine East will offer full-spectrum care—including preventative health screenings, pediatrics, chronic disease management, and physical exams—as well as treating acute conditions. With on-site labs and diagnostic capabilities, patients can receive timely, coordinated care under one roof.
UAB Family Medicine East, housed in a newly renovated, 3,800-square-foot clinic space, was designed with patient accessibility and comfort in mind. Located on the first floor with drive-up and drop-off capability, the clinic includes seven exam rooms, in-office labs, point-of-care testing, and convenient access to on-campus radiology services.
“Our mission at UAB Medicine is to provide life-changing care,” said Erin DeLaney, M.D., vice chair for clinical affairs and quality and ambulatory medical quality officer. “Growing our clinical footprint and expanding access to quality care are key to serving communities and offering patient-centered, cost-effective care. This new clinic reflects our commitment to providing comprehensive care in an accessible, modern setting.”
Assistant professor Rachel Powers, D.O., will be part of the new faculty opening the clinic. Two additional family medicine physicians, Morvarid Sanandaji, M.D., and Jennifer Kingsley, M.D., will join the team in September. Each provider brings a passion for whole-person care and a commitment to improving health outcomes across all ages.
This new location supports UAB Medicine’s mission to expand access to high-quality primary care throughout the Birmingham metro area. In the past two years, the Department of Family and Community Medicine has expanded its clinical footprint at UAB Hospital-Highlands and launched a primary care clinic exclusively for UAB employees and their families at The Kirklin Clinic. Meanwhile, the Primary Care Service Line also relocated to a new clinic at Lee Branch in order to expand services.
"Consistent access to a primary care provider and preventative care services helps ensure people live longer, healthier lives,” said Irfan Asif, M.D., chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine and associate dean of primary care and rural health. “UAB is deeply committed to growing access to primary care across Alabama, and this is just the beginning of our efforts to ensure better health for all."
The new clinic is located at UAB St. Vincent’s East, 48 Medical Park Drive East, Suite 154, Birmingham, AL 35235.
