Thi Yen Ly Huynh, Ph.D.Thi Yen Ly Huynh, Ph.D., received a travel award to SERLC in Asheville, North Carolina.Thi Yen Ly Huynh, Ph.D., a postdoctoral fellow in the Ramanadham Lab at the UAB Comprehensive Diabetes Center (UCDC), was granted a travel award to present at the Southeastern Regional Lipid Conference (SERLC) in Asheville, North Carolina, Nov. 5-7, 2025.

The annual conference brings together world-renowned scientists, post-docs, and students to share cutting-edge research on lipid biology, lipidomics, and the role of lipids in disease.

Huynh is currently exploring the molecular mechanism of how lipid signaling leads to Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) under the mentorship of Sasanka Ramanadham, Ph.D., professor in the UAB Department of Cell, Developmental, and Integrative Biology (CDIB) and senior scientist in the UCDC.

At SERLC, Huynh gave an oral presentation of her work entitled, “Lipid signaling activates the inflammatory pathways in macrophages, leading to beta cell death and type 1 diabetes development.”

Huynh received the travel award from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine Department of Cellular, Molecular and Genetic Medicine (CMGM), a conference sponsor.

She also recently received a travel award to attend the International Meeting on Lipid Mediators in Health and Disease and was selected as a finalist for an Outstanding Young Scientist Award to be presented at that upcoming meeting in Bethesda, Maryland.
