Julie Kanter, MD (Associate Professor, Hematology and Oncology) has received NIH approval to participate in a clinical trial to study a possible cure for Sickle Cell Disease. The Lentiglobin BB305 Study will begin enrolling patients in the next couple of months here at UAB, and initial results have been very promising.

The improvement is due to extensive efforts to recognize and capture the complexity of their patients at the VA with accurate billing and coding. Ultimately, this will result in more resources for patient care. Kudos to all who contributed to this stellar improvement. We look forward to your continued growth and success!

Congratulations to the Department of Medicine 35^th Annual Trainee Research Symposium Winners! TRS highlights the hard work and talent among our extraordinary trainees in both basic science and clinical research. More than 125 Fellows, Graduate Students, Post-Doctoral Scholars, and Residents submitted abstracts to the poster competition. Congratulations to all who participated in the symposium, and thanks to all the faculty who judged their fine work.
