The University of Alabama at Birmingham has named Lora Fox its next deputy chief information officer and associate vice president for information technology.
Fox joins UAB from Indiana University, where she spent 25 years in higher education, most recently as associate vice president for enterprise systems.
In her new role, Fox will help guide IT strategy, strengthen governance and organizational alignment, and enhance operational excellence across UAB IT while supporting the university’s academic, research and clinical missions.
“I’m excited to join UAB and ready to get to work,” Fox said. “Few institutions bring together education, research and health care at the scale UAB does, and technology touches all of it. I’m looking forward to working with the IT team and partners across the university to solve real problems and be part of what UAB does next.”
At Indiana, an R1 research institution, Fox led a 329-member IT organization and oversaw enterprise resource planning, identity and access management, research administration, and enterprise integrations. She led the implementation of a student success platform focused on improving degree planning, data quality and student outcomes, and co-sponsored the university’s enterprise AI enablement efforts. Beyond her institutional responsibilities, Fox has been active in the higher education technology community, speaking at national conferences including EDUCAUSE and the Microsoft 365 Community Conference.

Howard, D.Sc., vice president and chief information officer. “Her grasp of academic culture means she connects with people in a way that accelerates our progress rather than just managing it. She also brings a track record of building teams where IT staff do their best work, which matters just as much as the strategy itself. I’m excited to welcome her to UAB and look forward to the contributions she will make in our department and across the institution.”
Fox holds a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and a master’s degree in IT Management from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, where she also served as adjunct faculty in Accounting Information Systems. She will start work Sept. 14.
