UAB IT is implementing a new measure to protect Teams meetings from unverified external participants.

Beginning June 13, 2025, UAB IT will add verification checks for anonymous and unverified external participants who are joining Teams meetings. The security precaution is designed to prevent unauthorized personnel and automated bots from joining and disrupting meetings, or potentially being exposed to sensitive information.

What you can expect from the change:

  • When an unverified participant attempts to join a meeting, they will be prompted to enter a set of letters and numbers displayed on the screen.
  • This process will ensure that only invited participants can enter the meeting.
  • UAB-authenticated attendees such as UAB faculty and staff will not have to perform this check. This will only apply to external “guest” participants.

UAB Medicine has already enabled this feature in its Microsoft Teams implementation.
