Kathy Nugent, Ph.D., who serves as Senior Associate Vice President and Chief Biotechnology and Innovation Officer for the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), is one of three UAB leaders to be named to the 2025 Birmingham Business Journal (BBJ) Power 60 list.

“Growth and opportunities abound in Birmingham’s businesses and throughout the region, and one major reason why is our leadership,” wrote Stephanie Rebman, editor-in-chief of the BBJ.
Nugent, who has been included on almost every BBJ Power 60 list since 2014, joins UAB President Ray Watts, M.D., and UAB Health System CEO Dawn Bulgarella.
