The Alternative Master of Arts in Education in French and English as a Second Language is designed for individuals who hold an undergraduate degree in a field other than education and wish to become certified teachers of ESL and French.

Coursework takes a minimum of 52 semester hours to complete and includes courses in education as a profession, classroom management, grammar and linguistics for ESL teachers, phonology for second language teachers, as well as 12 graduate hours in French and an internship in ESL and French. Admissions Requirements

Applicants must meet the AMP admission requirements and attend an AMP information session to be considered for admission to the French and ESL program. Applicants to the French and ESL program must meet both ESL and French admission requirements.

Alternative Master's Program

The Alternative Masters Program (AMP) is designed for individuals who hold an undergraduate degree in a field outside of education who want to become certified teachers. Students who successfully complete the AMP will earn a master’s degree in education and be eligible for Class A certification in their specific teaching field.
