michael glaserMichael Glaser holds a BA from Davidson College. He has taught private drum lessons professionally since 2001, and has played drums professionally since 1992. He first started playing drums when “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey was a brand new hit single, so you may do the math on that one. In addition to teaching at UAB since 2009, he also teaches drumset lessons at the Alabama School of Fine Arts and Homewood School of Music, and he feels that being a teacher has made him a better performer. Michael has played gigs with nationally and internationally known rock and jazz artists like John P. Strohm, Victor Atkins, Taylor Hicks, and Johnny O’Neal, and has worked with a long list of Birmingham bands and artists in many styles, like String Theory, Glenn & Libba and The Cast, Chad Fisher, The Birmingham Seven, Erin Mitchell, Meteorite, Choko Aiken, Downright, Jason Bailey, The White Oaks, Mark Kimbrell, Mingusphere, and the UAB Jazz Faculty Quintet. He is also a bandleader, transcribing, arranging, and performing the music of his favorite jazz composers and performers. He has played in major music festivals in New York City and Lucerne, Switzerland, and toured Colombia, South America twice with a UAB Jazz faculty group. Michael is a graduate of Davidson College in Davidson, NC. Visit him on the web at www.MichaelGlaserMusic.com.
