Giving to the Benevolent Fund has simply become part of my life at UAB, something I’ve done for so may years that it feels natural rather than intentional.
I give to the UAB Benevolent Fund because it provides a meaningful way for me to support the university’s efforts to help people in need, especially in our local communities. UAB does so much beyond education and research, and the Benevolent Fund is one way those efforts are directly felt by individuals and organizations who rely on that support. Knowing that my contribution plays even a small role in helping others is important to me.
What really motivates me is the idea that my donation doesn’t stand alone. On its own, any single gift might seem modest, but when it’s combined with donations from colleagues across the university – large and small – it becomes something much more powerful. Contributing allows me to feel that my gift, added to many others, can make a continuing difference for the designated entities the Benevolent Fund supports. It’s that collective impact that makes giving feel worthwhile.
We’re living in a tough environment right now, particularly for non-profits and service organizations. Many are stretched thin, facing increased demand with limited resources. I’m very aware that every donation helps, and that consistent support can make a real difference in keeping these organizations going. That reality reinforces my commitment to continue giving, even when times are uncertain.
From the very beginning of my time at UAB, giving to the Benevolent Fund was something I wanted to be part of. The idea of joining a community of colleagues who were working together to support others resonated with me right away. I didn’t see it as just another program, but as a reflection of UAB’s values and its commitment to service.
