I know firsthand how it feels to go through hard times and need a little help to get back on your feet. When you’re struggling, even a small amount of support can make a huge difference. The Benevolent Fund was there for me when I needed it, and that kindness stayed with me long after the immediate situation passed.
Because of that experience, giving back feels deeply personal. Supporting the Benevolent Fund is my way of paying that kindness forward. I want to be that person for someone else – the person who helps make a difficult moment a little more manageable. Life doesn’t always go according to plan, and unexpected hardships can happen to anyone. Knowing there’s a resource like the Benevolent Fund available during those moments is incredibly important.
I like the idea that my contribution, especially when it’s combined with others, can help someone bridge a gap during a tough time. It might be help with an urgent expense, a temporary setback, or something completely unforeseen. Whatever the situation, I know how much it matters to feel supported rather than alone. That’s what the Benevolent Fund represents to me – people helping people.
Giving a portion each pay period also makes it easy to stay consistent. It’s not about making a big gesture; it’s about showing up over time. Those regular contributions add up, and they help ensure the Benevolent Fund can continue to be there when someone needs help most. I’ve seen how powerful that can be.
After all these years, my reasons for giving are simple and unchanged. I give because I’ve been there. I give because I know what a difference it can make. And I give because I want others to experience the same support and kindness that helped me through a difficult moment. For me, the UAB Benevolent Fund isn’t just a program – it’s a reminder of what it means to take care of one another.
I’ve been giving to the UAB Benevolent Fund for about 30 years now. That number honestly surprises me when I say it out loud, but it also feels right. Giving has been part of my routine at UAB for so long that I don’t really think about it anymore – it’s just something I do. I give a portion each pay period to support the great work that the Benevolent Fund does.
I believe I signed up for the Benevolent Fund when I was first hired. Back then, it seemed like a simple and meaningful way to be part of the UAB community. At the time, I didn’t know how personally important it would become to me later on. I just knew it felt like the right thing to do – helping others in need, especially coworkers who might be facing unexpected challenges.
