Centering Records is an independent label done by the remarkable William Parker, presenting a small sampling of his magnificent work. Press runs are minute, so one should add these to a collection as soon as possible. Only 1001 was issued as an lp; from 1002 on all have been issued only in CD format. CD1003 is currently available from Steven Joerg; 1001 has been reissued, in CD format, by Eremite Records.

It's discographical puzzle time, jazzers. Rick Lopez, in his magnificent sessionography of Wm. Parker, has the following entry:

"...the year and I think the drummer on the session. Parker mailed me a DAT when we did the Halana piece and allowed us to select the track we wanted to use for the compilation disc. Most... are solo pieces. One... even uses prepared tape loops." —Michael Chaiken, correspondence w/ James Lindbloom.

Halana Magazine is available from Chris Rice. Worth every penny and then some.

Centering 1002 / Not in my collection.

You've already anticipated the problem: Centering 1002 is Flowers Grow in My Room and not Painter's Autumn I assume that the an/notation "(CS)" means DAT "cassette", which throws more confusion into the mix.

My off the top of my head thought is that Chris Rice received the music from William Parker on DAT, that Parker anticipated releasing the entire document on his Centering label as 1002, Painter's Autumn, and then decided to give the world of Creative Improv outside of NYC its first taste of Little Huey Creative Music Orchestra as 1002, Flowers Grow in My Room, instead (for which I'm eternally grateful).

I need to write Steven Joerg and see if he, or Wm. Parker, can shed any light on this question.
