Leonard Watkins is an accomplished acoustic blues performer, based near Birmingham, Al. Influenced by Son House, Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson, Leonard plays a passionate style of delta blues. Equipped with a 1932 National Steel guitar and Craftsman socket, he slaps and snaps the Blues. Leonard plays the blues with his own feel, believing that you can play another man's song but not another man's 'feel'. He plays intense  delta blues to acoustic versions of Chicago blues. He'll entertain with some lighted hearted original blues such as 'Cushy Tushy' and 'Wal-Mart Greeter'. Playing straight from the heart he'll move you with heartfelt tunes like 'Mrs. Rosa Sat Down', a moving tribute to Rosa Parks or 'Delta Darkness', a tribute to the original  bluesman and women. Watkins has a natural dry sense of humor, listen carefully to his mutterings between songs, he'll put a smile on your face. Leonard is an entertainer and crowd pleaser. Leonard has performed at the following events:

2007 International Blues Challenge -  Memphis, Tn
2006 winner Battle of The Blues Bands (solo/duo) The Magic City Blues Society - B'ham, Al
2006 Magic City Blues Fest -  B'ham, Al
2003 City Fest - Tuscaloosa, Al
1997 King Biscuit Festival - Helena, Arkansas

1997 National Slide Guitar Festival - Brevard, North Carolina
1998 & 1999 Sloss Furnace Birthday Blast -  B'ham, Al
and numerous other events.

Leonard has played at numerous festivals and events around the Southeast. More recently as a board member of the Magic City Blues Society, Leonard has worked hard to encourage the blues as an art form. He has hosts a semi regular Blues Jam  creating a forum for musicians to play together, practice their chops or show off their chops.

A SPECIAL THANKS TO ALL THE MUSICIANS AND FRIENDS THAT SUPPORTED THE BLUES JAMS  THE RESPONSE HAS BEEN TERRIFIC.
STAY TUNED TO THE MAGIC CITY BLUES SOCIETY WEB SITE FOR INFORMATION ON THE NEXT JAM.

If you are looking for an evening of rock blues or relaxing blues look elsewhere - however if you are looking for honest blues straight from the heart with PASSION then you are at the right place.
