Using Microsoft FrontPage with your personal web site

You can use Microsoft FrontPage to build your personal web site and transfer that site to your DPO personal web site using FrontPage Publish. (As of Monday, April 27, 1998)

PLEASE NOTE:
1) Our Help Desk does not provide support for how to use or install Microsoft FrontPage.
2) Only page publishing is supported - discussion groups & other interactive features are NOT supported at this time.

HOWEVER: We do provide instructions for how to configure FrontPage to work with your personal web site.

If you have already requested a DPO e-mail/web account, you are ready to use FrontPage. Click here for more information about how to request a DPO account.

In the FrontPage Explorer window (be sure you are in the correct window--not the one that is used to create pages), locate and click on the button labeled Publish

In the box labeled Username, enter your DPO alias.

In the boxed labeled Password, enter your DPO password.

Click on the button labeled Finish
NOTE: DPO alias and DPO password are those you selected when you registered in the UAB Electronic Phonebook and requested your DPO account.

A window named Publish will open. Click on the button labled More Webs.
NOTE: The next time you see this window, after completing the configuration described here, you will see the words: http://www.dpo.uab.edu/~youralias in the white box labeled Publish FrontPage Web to. You will, in the future, simply select that link.

In the box labeled: Please specify the location to which you want to specify your FrontPage web, you will type: http://www.dpo.uab.edu/~youralias

Click the OK button.
NOTE: You should substitute your DPO alias for the word youralias. Also, please be sure to include the tilde character (the squiggle in front of your alias).

In the box labeled: FTP Server name, put www.dpo.uab.edu
In the box labeled: Directory path, put /home/youralias/web. Substitute you DPO alias for the word youralias. Notice that this time, your should NOT include the tilde.

Now the Publish window reappears, with your home page link defined in the window labeled Publish FrontPage web to. Select that link by clicking on it once, and then push the OK button. In the future, this final step is all that is needed to publish your web site to your DPO web space.
