PROBLEM: Why isn't my E-mail address listed in the UAB Electronic Phonebook? I've been using e-mail here at UAB for years!

The answer in this question lies in the distributed management of information at UAB. Human Resources and the Registrar's office know your name; but who knows your e-mail address? Every employee and student at UAB is listed in the UAB Electronic Phonebook; we draw the list of names directly from the Human Resources and Registrar's databases. (NOTE: it is possible for an individual to request that this information not be made available for either the printed or electronic phonebooks; you will not see their names for this reason).

Neither Human Resources nor the Registrar have any records pertaining to your e-mail address; therefore, when we draw from their records, we get accurate names, but no e-mail address information.

SOLUTION:

In order for your e-mail address to appear in the UAB Electronic Phonebook, you must place the address there yourself using our on-line registration procedure. You must make this change yourself; people often move e-mail accounts from one system to another as they change departments, modernize, or work from home; we have no idea which of the old e-mail accounts are still used as primary mailboxes. You have only 6 boxes to fill out to register your e-mail address: your SS#, your date of birth, your "alias", a password, and your "host based e-mail address", which is the name of the computer which actually holds your mail for you.
