How to Use the LDAP Directory Service : Outlook 98
| First, open a "New Mail Message". You must have a message open to use the LDAP directory service. |

| Under the menu item Tools, select "Address Book" |
|
| When the Address Book opens, click on the Find button near the top. |

A window will open entitled "Find People".
(a) Use the pull-down menu to select UAB Electronic PhoneBook (b) Put the name you are searching for in the Name field. In this example we are searching for a Jill whose last name starts with G.
(c) Click the Find Now button. |

The LDAP Service will present you with a list of possible matches. (Please note that you will not be supplied with more than 25 names at once, so a search for Smith will not show you all the possibilities--you must make your search more specific.) (a) Look at the list of names. You see that 4 Jill's have been found: two have last names beginning with G. The other two are a duplicate listing for a Jill whose middle initial is G. Suppose you aren't sure if it's Jill Gemmill or Jill Gilbert that you're looking for. (b) Click on the Properties button. The "Jill B Gemmill Properties" window opens. Click on the tab labeled Business.By examining the department and title you can tell if this is the right Jill. (c) Notice that you can
also add this information to your address book. Click the

The name you just selected will now appear in the Message Recipients box. Click the OK button. |

You're back to the e-mail message, which now has an address in the To.. field. Complete your message and Send, as usual. |
