NOTE: Error Messages When You Search the Outlook Address Book by Using a Full User Name

If you type a full user name in the Display Name field in the Find dialog box of your address book when you try to search a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) server in Outlook, you may receive error messages.

You can look up e-mail addresses in the UAB Electronic Phonebook by adding the LDAP directory service to your e-mail program's Address Book.

Using LDAP, you do not need to know a person's e-mail address in order to send them mail. You can just type their name into the Send-To field of your message, and the LDAP service will find their address for you. For example, you could send mail to Pablo Picasso and the directory service automatically convert that to ppicasso@uab.edu. Entities such as department names can also be found this way: for example, if you address a message to User Services you will be prompted to select either UserServices@uab.edu or the User Services group at Mervyn Sterne Library.

Follow the links above for instructions on how to add LDAP directory services to the e-mail programs listed above.
