LDAP Directory Service Using the LDAP Directory Service with MS Outlook 98 and 2000

Now that I've installed the LDAP Directory Service, how do I use it?

How to Install the LDAP Directory Service : Outlook 98

  • Start Microsoft Outlook.

  • Open the Address Book.
  • In the Address Book, click the Tools menu, and then click Accounts.

  • A window titled "Internet Accounts" should open up.
  • In the "Internet Accounts" window, Click the Add button.
  • An Internet Directory Server Name Window opens.

  • Type ldap.uab.edu in the Blank space (a)
      UAB Hospital also has an LDAP server - repeat these instructions but Set the Internet Directory Server Name to gw5.uabmc.edu

  • Do NOT check the box requiring a log on (b)

  • Click the Next button(c)
  • Click the Yes radio button to indicate that you DO want to use this directory service

  • Click the Next button
  • Set the Friendly Name to UAB Phonebook.
      UAB Hospital also has an LDAP server - repeat these instructions but set the Friendly Name to UAB Hospital
  • Click the Next button.
  • Click the Finish button on the Congratulations screen
  • You should see the UAB Phonebook entry listed under Directory Services (a)

  • Click the Set Order button (b)
  • Look at your list of Directory Services. (a) If you have more than one listed, you may want to be sure that your department's service is listed first.

  • If you need to adjust the order, use the Move Up and Move Down buttons (b)

  • Save your changes by clicking the OK button (c)
  • In the Address Book, click the Tools menu, and then click Accounts.

  • A window titled "Internet Accounts" should open up.
  •  

  • Highlight ldap.uab.edu

  • Click the Properties button
  • In the Properties Window,

  • Click the tab labeled Advanced (a)

  • Leave Directory Service set to 389, which is the default setting (b)

  • Set the search base to: o=uab.edu (c)
      UAB Hospital also has an LDAP server - repeat these instructions but Set the search base to o=uab
  • Click the OK Button (d)

    NOTE: This works differently than the Microsoft Address book you are used to!
