LDAP Directory Service Using the LDAP Directory Service with Outlook 98 Corporate Edition

Now that I've installed the LDAP Directory Service, how do I use it?

How to Install the LDAP Directory Service : Outlook 98 Corporate Edition

Adding the UAB Electronic Phonebook Service
  1. Start Microsoft Outlook.
  2. Select Services from the Tools menu.
  3. In the window labeled "Services" click on the tab labeled Services and then click Add.
  4. In the "Add Service to Profile" window, select "Microsoft LDAP Directory". If you do NOT see the Microsoft LDAP service listed as an option, you must first add the LDAP service.
  5. Click OK.
  6. In the new window which pops up:
    • Change "Directory Service Account" to UAB Electronic Phonebook
    • Change "Server Name" to ldap.uab.edu
    • Change "Search Base" to o=uab.edu (that's a little "o" for "organization")
    • Leave any login and password fields BLANK
    • Click on OK.
    • Exit Outlook and restart your computer.
  7. Start Microsoft Outlook again.
  8. Select Services from the Tools menu.
  9. In the window labeled "Services" click on the tab labeled "Addressing"
  10. Click "Add"
  11. In the "Add Address List" window, select "LDAP Directory on ldap.uab.edu"
  12. Click Add.
  13. Click Close.
  14. In the "...check names using these address lists..." window you will probably want your personal and department address book(s) listed first and the ldap.uab.edu address book listed after those.
  15. Click OK.
  16. Restart Outlook 98 Corporate edition.

UAB Hospital also has an LDAP server - repeat these instructions but
  • Set the Directory Service Account to UAB Hospital
  • Set the Server Name to gw5.uabmc.edu
  • Set the Search Base to o=uab

How to use the LDAP service (UAB Electronic Phonebook)

NOTE: This works differently than the Microsoft Address book you are used to!

Adding the Microsoft LDAP Service
    The Corporate LDAP service is a component included in the ValuPack on the Outlook 98 CD-ROM. To install the service, follow these steps:
  1. Insert the Outlook 98 compact disc in the CD-ROM drive on your computer.
  2. On the desktop, double-click the My Computer icon and then double-click the CD-ROM drive.
  3. Double-click the Valupack folder and then double-click the Corpldap folder.
  4. Install the Corporate LDAP service by double-clicking O98ldap.exe.
  5. Complete the installation by clicking Yes to continue and clicking Yes to accept the License Agreement. Click OK when the installation is complete and restart the computer.
