Research Activity:
My research effort focuses on two areas of condensed matter physics: magnetic properties of solids and superconductivity. The magnetic studies focus on the fabrication and characterization of magnetic nanoparticles, nanowires and other nanostructures as well as bulk materials. In these studies, we utilize a variety of measurement techniques including SQUID magnetometry, vibrating sample magnetometry, ac susceptibility, heat capacity, and resistivity as well as structural characterization by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. We are also interested in the development of these magnetic nanostructured materials and techniques for potential biomedical applciations. The superconductivity research focuses on understanding of the various physical phenomena, such as electrical, magnetic, and electrodynamic effects associated with both conventional metallic superconductors and high-temperature oxide superconductors, and the syntehsis of novel materials for increasing the superconducting transition temperature.
