Olive family history pages on the Internet

[Created 5/22/1998, last update 4/26/8/2001]

This page is a maintained as a service by Fred Olive in order to help keep the Olive family history researchers up-to-date on some of the web pages that contain material on Olive family history. If you want your Olive family page added to this page, send me your email address and the address to your own existing web page. Whether you have a little information about your immediate family or a lot of research material on several Olive families is not important. Your participation is the important thing.

She invites all to subscribe to the list, by sending a message to the following address: OLIVE-L@rootsweb.com In the body of the message type the word "subscribe" (without the quotes)

MColin Olliffe - colin@colliffe.freeserve.co.uk - Olive/Olliffe coats of arm from the UK. Colin has created a One Name Study page dedicated to the study of Olive/Olliffe and all variants. His page gives his family history, maps, statististics about Olives in UK and USA. On his has page about the Olive name he mentions a Richard Olive in the Hundred Rolls - 1279. Now that is the earliest mention of the Olive (by that spelling) that I have found.

FCarolyn Fix Blount - cdblount@uswest.net and FCarole Confar - confar@silcom.com - are genealogists that are searching of Olives from Canada and England. Carolyn is a community college professor, loves to read, sew, hike, travel, garden, enjoy the grandkids and "do genealogy" in spare time. My maternal grandmother was Harriott Scammell OLIVE, traced back to William b 1753/54 of Chatham, Kent, ENG, the loyalist immigrant who married 26 Apr 1780 the widow Catherine Beers Schmidt at Trinity Church, Wall Street NY, and went to St. John NB Canada where the family were ship builders for several generations. William is son of John Olive, b 1714 and Mary Dadd b 1730 of Chatham. The family is supposedly Huguenot from France, but that's as far back as I've proved it! Carolyn Fix Blount, 2026 Tenth Avenue East, Seattle, WA, 98102. Carole Confar has less to say but is not less interested in finding her Olives. Let them know if you have Olives that might have come their way.

FPatricia M. Crooks - calvin1@sunline.net - Patricia's line begins with "Old" James Olive, Sr. was father of Jesse Olive (number 6 in James Olive Book) Jesse Olive married Monicah Massey Their son John Olive married Holland Bowden They had twin sons, Leonidas Taylor Olive and Leroy Wester Olive born in 1832 Leonidas was known as "Randy", he married Victoria Melton in 1861. Their first child was also named Leonidas Taylor Olive, born in 1862. He married Elizabeth Viola Maynard in 1894. They had 4 sons (one named Fred, by the way) and a daughter, my mother, Ollie Mae Olive. She married Orven Darwin Hillman and had 2 daughters.

M Michael L. Rankin - mikerankin@pdq.net - Michael says that his family believes Robert James OLIVE immigrated from England about 1731. He was thought to be the son of Robert Oliviere who fled from France (Huguenot) to England. A family history was developed in the early 1960's by Michael's my great grandmother (Hattie OLIVE) and a great aunt. As you can see he is interested in his family history.

FGail A. Röthlin (McAdam) - mgroth@active.ch writes that we might find this interesting.
(BTW his email subject line was "The Olive Tree in South Africa")

Caroline Louisa Olive (b.5.4.1863, d. 25.2.1942 in SA) married William
Robert Hobden in 1888. They settled in South Africa in 1905. My maternal
grandfather William Charles Vernon Hobden, b.12.12.1892 in Maresfield, UK
married Sarah Currie McNeil.

Caroline Louisa was one of 7 children to Edward (b. 1838, d. 12.4.1866)
and Elizabeth Winter. Edward was the second Edward born to John (bap.
10.2.1764, d. 27.2.1845) and Eliza Watson of Greenhurst farm. The had 4
children, John, Edward (bap. 17.4.1835, buried 22.1.1836, Elizabeth (bapt.
24.1.1830 and married Henry Duvall). John and his sister Sukie were born
to Edward (b ca. 1732, d. 25.6.1797) and Jane (d. 21.7.1819).

If you are interested in anymore information, my great-aunt Mrs. Renee

M John Scott - jscott@viconet.com - Olives in Bristol, England

I have evidence that a certain Wm. H. Olive made a presentation to a George Smith in Bristol, 1888. This was to honour Smith for his services to Olive--presumably professional services of some sort. We think that Smith is a relative of my wife's (she and I are both English), but his name does not lend itself to genealogical research. We thought it would be more productive to look first for his employer, Olive.

Does anyone know of a Wm. H. Olive, active in Bristol around 1888? Please e-mail me if you have any information.
Thanks, all....

Because first names do not always help us determine the men from the women (especially if the name is from another language), I will use the following symbols help in the identification:
